Mine packs for stope support
- The photo shows 1 metre high packs being subjected to 1000 ton loads by a pneumatic press at the Chamber of Mines
- The load bearing curve is most interesting and proves Hyson Cells as a suitable candidate for stope support in the mines
- The cells can be filled with a combination of mine tailings for the bulk of the fill with a central concrete fill to increase initial load bearing
- Tests on fully saturated fill also prove suitability for use as fill for harbour walls. (Cells similar to those in the photo were constructed in a "portable swimming pool". The pneumatic tests were conducted on the cells with water in the pool)
